Planned Network Maintenance on 3/13 – Expected Downtime (Complete)

March 3, 2010

in Resolved

As we continue to grow, so do our network needs. We will be making major upgrades to our network infrastructure and this will cause a planned downtime for all users of Infusionsoft during our lowest of usage periods.

Infusionsoft will be unavailable on Saturday, March 13, 2010 between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM EST. (Click here to see what time in your time zone.) We don’t plan our network upgrade to take this long however, we are prepared for any delays or issues that may come up.

During this period, you will not be able to access or use Infusionsoft. In addition, scheduled actions in Infusionsoft will not be ran including follow-up sequences, broadcasts or any other scheduled actions during this time period. (They will run directly following the downtime, requiring no action on your part.)

IMPORTANT! During this during this downtime period…

  • eCommerce pages such as store fronts, order forms and any other public-facing pages will not be accessible;
  • Web Form submissions will be non-functional;
  • Trackable Links will be non-functional;
  • Affiliate redirects will be non-functional;
  • Open-rate tracking will be non-functional;
  • Applications will be inaccessible completely to anyone who accesses it;
  • API connections will not function;
  • All applications (even our own) will be impacted by this downtime.

This blog will be updated with details prior to and after the network upgrade, and we’ll also keep you posted on our @InfusionStatus Twitter account.

Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Update: *RESOLVED* Our maintenance was complete at 12:28 AM with no issues.

Will this affect ecommerce?

Reply

Joseph Manna March 4, 2010 at 12:59 AM

Griff,

Yes, it will affect eCommerce. All page accesses will result in a "Scheduled Maintenance" page to appear.

It will only be for a short period of time — we recommend users do _not_ have a product launch on Friday evening into Saturday until we post the "all clear" message.

Thanks,
Joseph

Will this affect webforms or will they be queued ?

Reply

Joseph Manna March 4, 2010 at 1:02 AM

Martin,

Web Forms will not function during this downtime. We're not exactly certain what will happen other than they won't submit and possibly an error page regarding "Scheduled Maintenance" will appear.

The only thing that will be queued and later processed will be scheduled actions from within your Infusionsoft application.

Thanks for asking these questions. I'll update the post to reflect these points accordingly.

Yes, will people be able to buy from me?

Reply

Joseph Manna March 4, 2010 at 1:04 AM

Carlos,

No, people will not be able to buy from you during the downtime. It will be for a short period at our lowest usage point of the week and the day, so not many people will notice a change from this.

This is to serve as a friendly warning to suspend any scheduled "sales" or marketing for people to do stuff between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

I hope this helps!

It's the Internet…..sales are ALWAYS going on…..there should be redundancy and replication in place so that this NEVER has to happen…..

Ryan, this is true; however, we are making significant changes to our network and routing infrastructure for this, there is no feasible, error-free redundancy that can take place in this instance.

Specifically, we are adding in new network switches and changing the trunking model of our switches, which will allow us to make changes more smoothly in the future. In exchange for this brief moment of downtime, we will increase the overall throughput from server to server as well as the reliability of our production servers. Finally, this involves our team physically unplugging and replacing the network devices and the less changes made in a short period of time, the more reliable this change will be for all users.

I know this doesn't exactly address your question but I figure the devil is in the details and this should give a little more transparency into the situation.

Thanks for your comments – we're getting to the point of 24×7 network redundancy. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Will my follow up sequences resume like there no was pause? For example I have sequences to send on a Wednesday (round forward), but I have noticed if I pause them at all they get sent on different days even if it says round to a Wednnesday.

Stacey,

Yes, they will resume like there was no break of time.

Will these changes affect the Infusionsoft API or custom programming at all?

Reply

Joseph Manna March 9, 2010 at 5:03 AM

Francis,

Yes, the API is dependent on the core Infusionsoft service and it will be impacted with this network upgrade.

What exactly are the changes that are taking place? Eg ,what should we expect to be updated/improved etc after it comes back online? Becuase after that update I'll want to personally test my system to check that it all still works!

Thanks for writing, Jon. The changes are rather transparent in nature and won't immediately be noticed. In application, these changes make sure all our servers are connected faster and will have a more redundant networking architecture. So, what will this mean for you? More trust in using our software as we continue to grow and ignite the small business world who chooses Infusionsoft.

No need to test, we'll have an entire team dedicated to bringing down and restoring access to the network with minimal issues. If you did want to test however, simply log into your application. ;-)

I hope this helps, thanks for your understanding.

What is the 'fail' message people will see when they try and submit a form?

And what response will the API give when people my code tries to access/submit info to infusion?

I need the content forms to inform the user that their message didn't get through, and to try back later.
And for the API, I need to record the failed connection attempts, and log peoples submissions to manually put through when I get back on the monday morning….

Jon,

I am unaware of how the API would behave under this circumstance. All web traffic (port 80/443) will be redirected to a static HTML page stating there's an error. If you have critical API operations taking place, it would be ideal to store the data on your server and later sync it when access is restored. We plan to have this network upgrade completed well within three hours during the lowest amount of usage.

"Infusionsoft will be unavailable on Saturday, March 13, 2010 between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM EST."

Unacceptable and unprofessional. Do you really expect to be taken seriously by businesses when you are effectively shutting down their access to their own customers for hours?

You need competition.

John,

We had to make this changes. We planned it. We provided users at least a week of notice. We apologize for making the critical changes to improve the performance and reliability of our network; however, through careful planning and execution this was a seamless upgrade.

It has been completed within the posted time frame this morning. Thank you for your patience.

What I need to know is whether or not this system upgrade is going to directly effect any of the content of my webforms, my email templates, my note templates, etc.??? I use webforms for more than just that – a webform. I use them as scripts and workflow for my staff. And the last system upgrade you all had, included the limitation of the number of characters allowed in the name field on a webform. This change completely cut my scripts in half and I had no back-ups so I had to start all over from scratch – a very time consuming and non-compensated process in which I'm still trying to recover from. So please let me know how this is going to effect the content of ANYTHING I have created inside of Infusionsoft because if I lose anything this time, I'll have to cut you guys loose. Thank You!

Yes, it impacted everything; however, it did not change any content. It has been completed within the posted time frame this morning. Thank you for your patience.
